Foobar2000 Download Foobar2000 0.9.6

foobar2000 is a freeware audio player for Windows developed by Peter Pawlowski, a former freelance contractor for Nullsoft. It is known for its highly customizable interface. It has many features for metadata support and high-quality audio output. To maximize the audio fidelity of consumer-grade equipment, it provides noise shaping and dithering. It features a number of official and third-party components which add many additional features. While the core is closed source, the author provides an extensive SDK under the BSD license. Since version 0.9.5, foobar2000 supports Windows XP and later releases only. This version features a revamped default interface, with embedded support for album list, album art, spectrum visualization, and some other features and improvements.

The name foobar is derived from the common placeholder name used in computer programming.

Foobar2000 0.9.6 Features

  • New installer options
Foobar2000 can now be installed in two modes: standard and portable.

    • Standard mode
Standard mode is similar to the “install for all users” option in older versions. You need administrative privileges to install foobar2000 in this mode.
    • Portable mode
Installing in portable mode only extracts the installer content and creates additional files that tell foobar2000 to store any configuration data in its installation folder as well as not to alter the Windows registry. Note that it is not possible to edit file type associations with foobar2000 when using portable mode, as that would require changes in the registry.
  • Media Library behavior changes
    • Folder watching
Unlike all previous versions, the Media Library now automatically tracks changes made to the content of your Media Library folders. It is no longer necessary or even possible to manually remove dead items or refresh the content of the Media Library.
    • Wine incompatibility
At the time this article is being written, the foobar2000 0.9.6 Media Library does not work correctly in Wine because of bugs/limitations in Wine itself. Changes in the Media Library folders may not be noticed by foobar2000 until it is restarted.
    • Hidden and system files
The Media Library now respects hidden and system flags; files or folders with those flags will be ignored. This can be used to selectively hide cuesheets or files referenced by cuesheets.
  • Limited compatibility with outdated components on Windows Vista
To permanently address the “bad allocation” bug present in very old versions of the foobar2000 SDK (released before 2006-07-30), foobar2000 now refuses to load components built with affected SDK versions when running on Windows Vista. Affected components can be fixed by just recompiling them with an updated version of the foobar2000 SDK.
  • Cuesheets in added folders ignored by default
In recent years it has become a popular trend to include cuesheet files with albums in various music trading communities. Such files introduced behaviors confusing to new foobar2000 users: each track of the album was listed twice. To address this issue, cuesheets are now ignored by default when adding entire folders as well as in the Media Library. You can change this in Preferences ⇒ General and Preferences ⇒ Media Library.
  • Built-in Matroska support
You should uninstall any third-party Matroska related components before using foobar2000 0.9.6, having them installed will only cripple the functionality.

FileZilla Client (also referred to as FileZilla) is a free, open source, cross-platform FTP client. Binaries are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS). As of June 20, 2008, it was the 10th most popular download of all time from SourceForge.net.[1]

FileZilla Server is a sister product of FileZilla Client. It is an FTP server supported by the same project and features support for FTP and FTP over SSL/TLS.

FileZilla’s source code is hosted on SourceForge. The project was featured as Project of the Month in November 2003.

FileZilla Main Features
The main features are the site manager, message log, file and folder view, and the transfer queue.

The site manager allows a user to create a list of FTP sites along with their connection data, such as the port number to use, the protocol to use, and whether to use anonymous or normal logon. For normal logon, the username is saved and optionally the password.

The message log is displayed along the top of the window. It displays the console-type output showing the commands sent by FileZilla and the remote server’s responses.

The file and folder view, displayed under the message log, provides a graphical interface for FTP. Users can navigate folders and view and alter their contents on both the local and remote machines using an Explorer-style tree interface. Users can drag and drop files between the local and remote computers.

The transfer queue, displayed along the bottom of the window, shows the real-time status of each queued or active file transfer.

As of version 2.2.23, FileZilla uses Unicode internally. As a result, it no longer runs on Windows 9x/ME.

The current binary versions of FileZilla for MacOS X no longer support MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger) or earlier. Running FileZilla with versions older than 10.5 (Leopard) requires compilation.

Eudora 8.0.0 Beta 4 Download Eudora 8.0.0 Beta 4

Eudora is an e-mail client used on the Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It also supports several palmtop computing platforms, including Newton and the Palm OS. The software was named after Eudora Welty because of her short story “Why I Live at the Post Office”. Eudora was developed by Steve Dorner in 1988 who worked at the Computer Services Organization of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Eudora was acquired by Qualcomm in 1991. In 2006 Qualcomm stopped development of the commercial version, and sponsored the creation of a new open-source version based on Mozilla Thunderbird code-named Penelope.

Originally distributed freely, Eudora was commercialized and offered in a Light (freeware) and Pro (commercial) product. It is now distributed in “Sponsored mode” (adware).

Eudora (6.0.1) added support for Bayesian filtering of spam with a feature called SpamWatch. Eudora (6.2) added a scam watch feature that flags suspicious links within e-mails in an attempt to thwart phishing. Eudora (7.0) added Ultra-Fast Search, which finds any emails using single or multiple criteria in seconds.

Eudora has support for ‘Stationery’, a standard message or reply prepared ahead of time to a common question. Eudora stores e-mails in the mbox format, which uses plain text files instead of a database as Microsoft Outlook does. This allows the user to back up portions of their e-mail correspondence without backing up the entire database.

Eudora supports the POP3, IMAP and SMTP protocols. Eudora also has support for SSL and S/MIME authentication, allowing users to sign or encrypt email communications for greatest security.

Eudora is noteworthy for its extensive variety of settings to customize its behavior, many of which are not available in the user interface but are accessed using numbered “x-eudora-setting” URIs that must be pasted into a message and clicked.

At one time, Eudora also offered a webmail version at eudoramail.com. This service was run by Lycos as part of Mailcity, later renamed Lycos Mail. As of 2006, Eudoramail addresses for users still work (and are redirected to Lycos Mail accounts), but new users cannot sign up for the service.

On October 11, 2006, Qualcomm announced that future versions of Eudora would be based on the same technology platform as Mozilla Thunderbird and be open source. The current codename for this project is “Penelope”. Penelope is developed by the Mozilla Foundation, and the project is being led by the former Qualcomm team, including original developer Steve Dorner.

Penelope is currently available as an extension to Mozilla Thunderbird. The Paid mode commercial version of Eudora is no longer available as of May 1st, 2007. The Light/Sponsored mode versions of Eudora continue to be available for download.

On July 19, 2007 the developers announced the first official Beta build (called Eudora 8.0.0b1), and published a roadmap of the planned progress. Until now, the project is still in beta stage.

Picasa is a software application for organizing and editing digital photos, originally created by Idealab and now owned by Google. “Picasa” is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa for “my house,” and “pic” for pictures (personalized art). In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa and began offering Picasa for free download. At the time of the acquisition, the company’s management team consisted of Lars Perkins as CEO, Mike Herf as CTO, and Dan Engel as VP Market Development.

Native applications for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux are available through Google Labs. For Windows 98 and Windows Me, only an older version is available. There is also an iPhoto plugin or a stand-alone program for uploading photos available for Mac OS X 10.4 and later.

Picasa Features

  • Collage
Experiment with six different collage types and a slew of new settings in the more hands-on collage creation screen.
  • Sharing
Why take two steps when you can do it in one? Upload an album to Picasa Web Albums and email invitations to friends and family with just one click.
  • Auto red-eye

FrostWire is a peer-to-peer file sharing program for the Gnutella and BitTorrent protocols. FrostWire is written in Java, and is a fork of LimeWire, another popular Gnutella client. Released under the GNU General Public License, FrostWire is free software.

The project was started in September 2005 by members of the LimeWire open source community, after LimeWire’s distributor considered placing “blocking” code, which it was developing in response to RIAA pressure and the threat of legal action, in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in MGM Studios, Inc. v. Grokster, Ltd. When eventually activated, the code could block its users from sharing licensed files. FrostWire was first released in October 2005 . Starting from version 4.13.1.7, Public Service Announcements can be found on the Community Chat tab.

As with LimeWire, FrostWire is in Java, and therefore is capable of supporting multiple platforms. While LimeWire is available in both free and paid versions, FrostWire is released only as a free version. The FrostWire program includes all of the functionalities of LimeWire’s free version, as well as a few features of LimeWire Pro’s payment based upgrades. FrostWire also provides a chatroom, which is absent in LimeWire. FrostWire’s interface is nearly identical to that of LimeWire’s, since it is based on the same code base. However, the color scheme is slightly different. As in LimeWire, FrostWire’s skin may be changed to a variety of different colors and shapes.
