Thunderbird 3.0 Beta 1 Download Thunderbird 3.0 Beta 1

Thunderbird is a great email client from the same people who brought you the Firefox browser.

Thunderbird gives you IMAP/POP support, a built-in RSS reader, support for HTML mail, powerful quick search, saved search folders, advanced message filtering, message grouping, labels, return receipts, smart address book LDAP address completion, import tools, and the ability to manage multiple e-mail and newsgroup accounts.

Thunderbird Features
Keep Your Vital Information Organized
Thunderbird 2 features many new enhancements to help you better manage your unruly inbox, and stay informed. Thunderbird 2 scales to the most sophisticated organizational needs while making it easy to find what you need.
Advanced Folder Views
Thunderbird 2 offers a variety of ways for you to organize and display your folders, whether by favorites, recently viewed or folders containing unread messages. As always, you can also set up RSS and newsgroup folders to stay on top of news and your interests. Thunderbird 2 also allows you to maximize your message view pane by opting for a folder drop down menu instead of the traditional sidebar.
Message Tagging
Thunderbird 2 allows you to “tag” messages with descriptors such as “To Do” or “Done” or even create your own tags that are specific to your needs. Tags can be combined with saved searches and mail views to make it easier to organize email.
Message History Navigation
Thunderbird 2 offers message history navigation that allows you to click “forward” and “back” much like in your Web browser. You can now quickly toggle between messages and folder views.
Improved Search
Thunderbird 2 features a find as you type pane that speeds up searches within displayed messages. Thunderbird also offers quick search, which starts showing search results as soon as you start typing in search terms.
Saved Searches
Do you find yourself searching for the same subject or message content over and over? Thunderbird 2 saves you time by allowing you to store this search as a folder. Rerunning the search is just a matter of clicking on the saved search folder in the folder pane.
Stay Informed
Thunderbird 2 has been updated to provide more informative and relevant message alerts containing sender, subject and message text for newly arrived messages. Folders provide a pop up summarizing new messages in that folder.
Easy Access to Popular Web Mail Services
Thunderbird 2 makes it even easier to integrate and use various Web mail accounts from one inbox. Gmail and .Mac users can access their accounts in Thunderbird by simply providing their user names and passwords.
Secure and Protect Your Mail
Mozilla has bolstered Thunderbird’s acclaimed security and privacy measures to ensure that your communications and identity remain safe. It’s like having your own security guard online.
Phishing Protection
Thunderbird protects you from email scams which try to trick users into handing over personal and confidential information by indicating when a message is a potential phishing attempt. As a second line of defense, Thunderbird warns you when you click on a link which appears to be taking you to a different Web site than the one indicated by the URL in the message.
Robust Privacy
Thunderbird 2 offers improved support for user privacy and remote image protection. To ensure a user’s privacy, Thunderbird 2 automatically blocks remote images in email messages.
Cutting Out the Junk
Mozilla has updated Thunderbird’s popular junk mail folders to stay ahead of spam. Each email you receive passes through Thunderbird’s leading-edge junk mail filters. Each time you mark messages as spam, Thunderbird “learns” and improves its filtering so you can spend more time reading the mail that matters. Thunderbird can also use your mail provider’s spam filters to keep junk mail out of your inbox.
Open Source, More Secure
At the heart of Thunderbird is an open source development process driven by thousands of passionate, experienced developers and security experts spread all over the world. Our openness and active community of experts helps to ensure our products are more secure and updated quickly, while also enabling us to take advantage of the best third party security scanning and evaluation tools to further bolster overall security.
Automated Update
Thunderbird’s update system checks to see if you’re running the latest version, and notifies you when a security update is available. These security updates are small (usually 200KB - 700KB), giving you only what you need and making the security update quick to download and install. The automated update system provides updates for Thunderbird on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux in over 30 different languages.
Get Your Mail, Your Way
Thunderbird allows you to customize your email to suit your specific needs whether it’s how you search and find messages or listening to music right out of your inbox.
Outfit Your Inbox
Thunderbird users can increase Thunderbird’s functionality and appearance using hundreds of add-ons. A Thunderbird add-on can let you manage contacts, place voice over IP calls, listen to music, and keep track of birthdates all from your inbox. You can even change the appearance of Thunderbird to suit your tastes.
Message Templates
Thunderbird 2 allows you to easily set up message templates to save you time – especially if you have to send the same mail message repeatedly.
Add-ons Manager for Extensions and Themes
The new Add-ons Manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes, making it even easier for you to customize Thunderbird 2. Install, uninstall, enable and disable your add-ons in a single place.

VLC Media Player 0.9.8aDownload VLC Media Player 0.9.8a

VLC media player is a free software media player written by the VideoLAN project.

VLC is a portable multimedia player, encoder, and streamer supporting many audio and video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It is able to stream over networks and to transcode multimedia files and save them into various formats. VLC used to stand for VideoLAN Client, but that meaning is now deprecated.

It is one of the most platform-independent players available, with versions for BeOS, Syllable, BSD, Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, MorphOS and Solaris, and is widely used with over 100 million downloads for version 0.8.6.

VLC includes a large number of free decoding and encoding libraries; on the Windows platform, this greatly reduces the need for finding/calibrating proprietary plugins. Many of VLC’s codecs are provided by the libavcodec library from the FFmpeg project, but it uses mainly its own muxer and demuxers. It also gained distinction as the first player to support playback of encrypted DVDs on Linux by using the libdvdcss DVD decryption library.

Originally the VideoLAN project was intended to consist of a client and server to stream videos across a network. Originally developed by students at the École Centrale Paris, it is now developed by contributors worldwide. VLC was the client for the VideoLAN project, with VLC standing for VideoLAN Client. It was released under the GPL on February 1, 2001. The functionality of the server program, VideoLAN Server (VLS), has mostly been subsumed into VLC and has been discontinued[citation needed]. The project name was changed to VLC media player since there is no longer a client/server infrastructure.

The cone icon used in VLC is a reference to the traffic cones collected by Ecole Centrale’s Networking Students’ Association. The cone icon design was changed from a hand drawn low resolution icon to a higher resolution CGI rendered version in 2006.

VLC Media Player Features
* VLC is popular for its ability to play the video content of incomplete, unfinished, or damaged video downloads before the files have been fully downloaded. (For example, files still downloading via BitTorrent, eMule, or Gnutella). It also plays m2t MPEG Transport Streams (.TS) files while they are still being digitized from an HDV camera via a FireWire cable, making it possible to monitor the video as it is being played. This is because it is a packet-based player.
* The player also has the ability to use libcdio to access .iso files so that the user can play files on a disk image, even if the user’s operating system does not have the capability of working directly with .iso images.
* VLC supports all codecs and all file formats supported by FFmpeg. This means that DVD Video and MPEG-4 playback as well as support for Ogg and Matroska (MKV) file formats work “out of the box”. However, this feature is not unique to VLC, as any player using the FFmpeg libraries, including MPlayer and xine-lib-based players, can play those formats without need for external codecs. VLC also supports codecs that are not included in FFmpeg.
* VLC media player has some filters that can distort, rotate, split, deinterlace, mirror videos, create display walls, or add a logo overlay. It can also produce video output as ASCII art.
* VLC media player can play high definition recordings of D-VHS tapes duplicated to a computer using CapDVHS.exe. This offers another way to archive all D-VHS tapes with the DRM copy freely tag. An entire library of tapes (or about 50 D-VHS 2 hours long) can be placed on a single terabyte sized hard drive. However, they must be imported by playing the tapes in real time, and can’t simply be copied as data files.
* Using a FireWire connection from cable boxes to computers, VLC can stream live, unencrypted content to a monitor or HDTV.
* VLC media player can display the playing video as the desktop wallpaper, like Windows DreamScene, but this feature is not currently available on Linux.
* VLC media player can do screencasts and record the desktop.
* On Microsoft Windows, VLC also supports the Direct Media Object (DMO) framework and can therefore make use of some third-party DLLs.
* VLC can be installed and run directly from a flash or other external drive.

VLC Media Player 0.9.8a Changelog
* Fixed buffer overflow in Real demuxer (SA-0811, CVE-2008-5276)

MediaMonkey Beta Download MediaMonkey Beta

MediaMonkey is a digital media player and media library application developed by Ventis Media Inc., for organizing and playing audio on Microsoft Windows operating systems. By using plugins, it can be extended to handle video and other media formats as well.

MediaMonkey is available in a free version as well as a paid version (”Gold” license). In addition, skins, extension scripts, and plugins are supported. Version 2 of the program uses the Microsoft Access format for its library, while SQLite is used for the third version.

MediaMonkey includes a CD ripper, CD/DVD Burner, and audio converter for saving music, and manual or automated playlist editors for creating music mixes. Its player automatically adjusts volume levels so that you don’t have continually fiddle with the volume control and supports hundreds of Winamp plug-ins and visualizations; or if you prefer, it can use Winamp as the default player. It also includes portable audio device synchronization that allows you to quickly synch tracks and playlists with iPods and other portable audio devices.

MediaMonkey Features

* Audio CDs
Music can be ripped from Audio CDs and encoded into most supported formats as well. Music can be burned to CD/DVD format in compressed or CD audio format, optionally normalizing the volume level of the songs in the process.
* Supported formats
Supported music formats include MP3, AAC, MP4, OGG, FLAC, WMA, APE, MPC, and WAV. Many more are also available via plugins.
* Conversion
MediaMonkey also allows automated conversion from all supported formats to MP3, OGG/Vorbis, WMA and WAV with total control over quality and volume settings. Registration to MediaMonkey Gold is required for converting more than five files to mp3. Alternatively, the user can replace the included MP3 encoder library with a free one, such as LAME.
* Media library
Users are able to quickly search the media library using tag and database information. Library information can be conglomerated with the statistics feature allowing users to see how they listen to music and use the software.
* Tagging
MediaMonkey features a multi-format tag editor that can save to a variety of tag formats including ID3v1 and ID3v2.3, Vorbis comment, WMA, APEv2, and RIFF tags. It can also read some obscure tag formats, such as the .WAV file tags written by MusicMatch Jukebox. When this is coupled with the format conversion feature it allows users to convert their libraries away from proprietary formats which may no longer be supported.
MediaMonkey also handles automatic and “intelligent” tagging of songs based on file names and playlist information (by scanning the songs or using the auto-tagger) and can gather information from online sources such as Amazon and FreeDB.
Furthermore, files can be scanned with the Replay Gain algorithm to normalize the perceived loudness of tracks or entire albums. The result can be written to the file’s tags and to MediaMonkey’s database.
* Organizing
Music files on the hard drive can be automatically organized in any way the user wishes using an auto-organize function that renames and relocates media files based on tag and library information.
* Synchronization
Support for portable audio devices allows one-button synchronization and auto-synchronization, to synchronize tracks and playlists with a broad range of portable devices. Synchronization includes on-the-fly music format conversion (when necessary) and includes:
o * Apple iPod Standard, Mini, Photo, Shuffle, Nano, Classic, Touch, iPhone (Does not yet support firmware updated 2.0 for Ipod Touch and Iphone).
o * iriver iFP-8xx, iFP-9xx, PMC-120, H10, N-xx, PMP-1xx, H120, H320, H340, T10
o * Creative ZEN Xtra, Micro, Neeon, Sleek, Touch, Vision, Vision:M, V, V Plus, ZEN
o * Microsoft Zune is supported through a registry hack by changing the service provider from Zune to WPD.
o * Some mobile phones
o * USB Mass Storage (MSC) devices
o * Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) devices (including Microsoft PlaysForSure devices)

MediaMonkey Beta Changelog
This is a major release that adds some new functionality along with quite a few improvements and fixes.
Note: The database format for version 3.1 is slightly different than for 3.0.x. When you install a 3.1 build, a backup of MM.DB will be created, and a new MM.DB will be created. The new version is not compatible with 3.0.x, so if you want to revert to 3.0.x, you’ll have to rename the backup DB to MM.DB.

AbiWord 2.6.5 Download AbiWord 2.6.5

AbiWord is a free software word processor. The name “AbiWord” (pronounced “Abby Word”) is derived from the root of the Spanish word “abierto”, meaning “open”. It currently runs on Linux, Mac OS X (PowerPC), Microsoft Windows, ReactOS, BeOS (unsupported), AmigaOS 4.0 (through its Cygnix X11 engine), and other operating systems.

AbiWord was originally started by SourceGear Corporation as the first component of AbiSuite, as part of a plan to create a full Office Suite that would be free software. However, SourceGear gradually moved on to other business interests, and now the AbiWord project is run by a team of volunteer developers. AbiWord is part of GNOME Office, a collection of office applications with some degree of integration.

Like most Open Source projects, AbiWord started as a cathedral, but has become more like a bazaar. AbiWord is part of a larger project known as AbiSource, which was started by the SourceGear Corporation. The goal of the project was the development of a cross-platform, Open Source office suite beginning with AbiWord, the project’s word processor.

SourceGear released the source code to AbiWord and a developer community quickly formed around the project. SourceGear has since then stopped working on the project.

The developer community has since then continued to make improvements and increase the quality of AbiWord. Version 1.0 was released in April 2002, followed by Version 2.0 in September 2003, 2.2 in December 2004 and 2.4 in September 2005.

AbiWord is unique among word processors in its drive to become a fully cross-platform word processor. Our source code is carefully written so that AbiWord will run on virtually any operating system with a minimum of time spent on porting. This combined with our support for internationalization (the ability to run AbiWord in many languages) gives AbiWord a massive potential user-base.

Currently we run on most UNIX systems, Windows 95 and later, QNX Neutrino 6.2. We also have a MacOS X native port available. There used to be a BeOS port, but that version has been unmaintained for too long and support for it has been discontinued.

AbiWord Features
* Interface
AbiWord has a similar user interface to classic versions of Microsoft Word, which is intended to ease migration for new users. Although there are differences, the AbiWord developers aim to embrace and extend this de facto standard in business.
With recent changes in Office 2007 user interface, AbiWord becomes a viable alternative, since it mimics the old versions of Word.
The interface is intended to follow user interface guidelines for each respective platform.
* File formats
AbiWord is packaged with several import/export filters, including Rich Text Format, HTML, OpenDocument, and Microsoft Word. An input filter for Office Open XML (docx) is included beginning with version 2.6.0. LaTeX is supported for export only. Plug-in filters are available to deal with many other formats, notably WordPerfect documents. The native file format, .abw, uses XML, so as to mitigate vendor lock-in concerns with respect to interoperability and also digital archiving.

AbiWord 2.6.5 Changelog

AbiWord 2.6 is a multi-platform word processor that combines state-of-the-art usability, powerful features, and excellent interoperability. Furthermore, it features a powerful framework for supporting custom extensions. AbiWord v2.6.5 is the latest stable release, which compared to v2.6.4 contains a good number of bugfixes and a couple of new features.

This release includes the following changes (and more!):

# Added our first iteraton of an Office Open XML filter. Features supported are: formatted text, formatted paragraphs, page breaks, columns, tab stops, footnotes, endnotes, headers/footers, fields, images, hyperlinks, bookmarks, lists, tables, and text boxes.
# Vastly improved LaTeX export filter, which even supports exporting equations now.
# Fixed a couple of annoying crashes in the GTK frontend, for example when overwriting a file or inserting a symbol.
# Fixed a bug that prevented the correct shaping of glyphs for complex scripts such as Arabic.

Note for Windows 95, 98 and ME users: AbiWord 2.6 is currently not available for your operating system. Please continue using AbiWord 2.4.6 instead.

FileZilla Client (also referred to as FileZilla) is a free, open source, cross-platform FTP client. Binaries are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS). As of June 20, 2008, it was the 10th most popular download of all time from[1]

FileZilla Server is a sister product of FileZilla Client. It is an FTP server supported by the same project and features support for FTP and FTP over SSL/TLS.

FileZilla’s source code is hosted on SourceForge. The project was featured as Project of the Month in November 2003.

FileZilla Main Features
The main features are the site manager, message log, file and folder view, and the transfer queue.

The site manager allows a user to create a list of FTP sites along with their connection data, such as the port number to use, the protocol to use, and whether to use anonymous or normal logon. For normal logon, the username is saved and optionally the password.

The message log is displayed along the top of the window. It displays the console-type output showing the commands sent by FileZilla and the remote server’s responses.

The file and folder view, displayed under the message log, provides a graphical interface for FTP. Users can navigate folders and view and alter their contents on both the local and remote machines using an Explorer-style tree interface. Users can drag and drop files between the local and remote computers.

The transfer queue, displayed along the bottom of the window, shows the real-time status of each queued or active file transfer.

As of version 2.2.23, FileZilla uses Unicode internally. As a result, it no longer runs on Windows 9x/ME.

The current binary versions of FileZilla for MacOS X no longer support MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger) or earlier. Running FileZilla with versions older than 10.5 (Leopard) requires compilation.

* * Easy to use
* * Supports FTP, FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)
* * Cross-platform. Runs on Windows, Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X and more
* * IPv6 support
* * Available in many languages
* * Supports resume and transfer of large files >4GB
* * Powerful Site Manager and transfer queue
* * Drag & drop support
* * Configurable Speed limits
* * Filename filters
* * Network configuration wizard
* * Remote file editing
* * Keep-alive
* * HTTP/1.1, SOCKS5 and FTP-Proxy support

FileZilla 3.1.6 Changelog
+ Automatically refresh remote directory listing if queue finishes successfully

7-Zip 4.62 Download 7-Zip 4.62

7-Zip is a free software/open source file archiver designed originally for Microsoft Windows. 7-Zip operates primarily with the 7z archive format, as well as being able to read and write to several other archive formats. In operation a user can use the command line, graphical user interface or Windows shell integration. 7-Zip began in 2000 and is actively developed by Igor Pavlov. It is related to a cross-platform port, p7zip.

In contrast to the market-leading programs WinZip and WinRAR, which remain as proprietary competitors, 7-Zip is distributed under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) (with the unRAR license restrictions), and as such is free software (excluding the non-free RAR code). 7-Zip was the winner of the 2007 community choice awards for “Technical Design” and for “Best Project”.

7-Zip Features
7-Zip supports many features, some which may not be found in popular commercial compression software.

* For encryption, 7z archives support the 256-bit AES cipher. Encryption can be enabled for both files and the 7z directory structure. When the directory structure is encrypted, users are required to supply a password to see the filenames contained within the archive, unless only the data was encrypted but not the filenames. WinZip-developed AES encryption standard is also available to encrypt ZIP archives but doesn’t offer filename encryption like 7z.
* 7-Zip flexibly supports volumes of dynamically variable sizes, useful for backups on removable media such as writable CDs and DVDs.
* When in 2-panel mode, 7-Zip can be considered a basic orthodox file manager.
* 7-Zip has the ability to unpack archives with corrupted filenames, renaming the files as required.
* 7-Zip has the ability to create self-extracting archives.
